| Fall Planting Season at Jensen River Ranch
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Our fall planting season at Jensen River Ranch came to a close on Sunday, November 3. We had more than 50 volunteers from REI, Clovis West, Fresno City College, Fresno Pacific University and our own River Stewards. We were also joined by volunteers from the American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing volunteer opportunities to American and International volunteers. The ACE volunteer group that worked with the Trust included volunteers from Spain, South Korea, Germany, the US, and Denmark.
Thanks to our volunteers and River Stewards we were able to plant more than 2,000 native trees, shrubs and acorns. We'd like to thank everyone who made it out to one of the workdays at Jensen River Ranch. |
| No December River Stewards Workday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Please note that we will not have a River Stewards workday in December. Instead, consider joining us for a special nature walk at Sycamore Island Ranch.Watershed Program Director, Sharon Weaver will lead you on a river restoration themed walk through the property.
The walk is scheduled for Saturday, December 1, beginning at 8:30am. If you would like to participate, please call (559) 433-3190 ext. 3#.

| 2008 River Stewards Program

As you begin planning for 2008, I wanted to announce a few changes to the River Stewards program. Instead of holding workdays on the first Saturday of every month, we will be scheduling workdays to coincide with specific Parkway needs and events. For example, the first workday in January will be held at Jensen River Ranch on January 26. Through the first few months of the year, we will be holding workdays at least once a month at Jensen River Ranch. In May and June we will clean up Camp Pashayan and participate in National River Cleanup. We will skip July and August, come back in September for California Coastal Cleanup, and return to Jensen River Ranch in October and November. We may add extra workdays in between those currently scheduled, so keep an eye on our website for changes. If you ever have questions about workday schedules or activities, please contact one of the following staff members for more information:
Lead Stewards Program
Many of our long-time River Stewards will remember our Lead Stewards Program, which allows volunteers to "adopt" a Parkway property for regular monitoring and routine maintenance. We are reinitiating the program in 2008, and we are looking for volunteers to adopt restoration areas at Jensen River Ranch, sections of the Lewis S. Eaton Trail. and three Parkway properties. More information about the Lead Stewards Program will be available on our website in December. |

2008 Jensen River Ranch Workdays

 Our winter/spring 2008 planting season will begin on January 26. We will be working with Tree Fresno, a local nonprofit that works to "raise the quality of life in the Fresno region by promoting environmental stewardship through community involvement in the planting and maintenance of trees and the creation of trails and greenbelts." During this workday we will plant native cottonwood and willow cuttings. We will meet at the River Center at 8:00am then travel to the site together.
