Docents
We want your skills…now!
When you volunteer as a River Docent, you will be joining other dedicated community volunteers who help local school children learn about the San Joaquin River. The River Parkway strives to create an atmosphere of enjoyment and curiosity about the river, so students will want to learn about and care for our precious natural resource.
As a River Docent, you will have the opportunity to participate in the following activities
- Work with teachers and children during field trips to the river
- Visit classrooms with interactive presentations
- Contribute to the environmental education of the next generation
- Participate in field trips and ongoing educational opportunities exclusively for Docents
- Receive expert and ongoing training to become an effective interpreter
Training materials are provided and each docent is expected to make a commitment of 2 days per month. Live Scan fingerprinting is required of all Parkway volunteers who have contact with children.
