Fishing
There are several good places to drop a line in the river along the San Joaquin River Parkway. Popular spots include Friant Cove, Lost Lake Park, Fort Washington Beach, the Sportsmans Club, and Sycamore Island.
Friant Cove is located at the corner of Friant Expressway and Road 206. The facility is owned by the San Joaquin River Conservancy and managed by California State Parks, Millerton Lake State Recreation Area. Friant Cove is open 7 days a week, and provides a Park and Ride, hand-carried canoe launch, fishing, picnic tables, and restroom. For information, call (559) 822-2332.
Lost Lake Regional Park is located at 16385 N Friant Rd, Friant, CA 93626. The park is owned and operated by the County of Fresno, and is open 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. There is a small vehicle access fee to enjoy the camping, fishing, play areas, and picnic tables. Fort Washington Beach is located at 10705 N Lanes Rd, Fresno, CA 93730. It is a privately-operated facility providing river access for fishing, picnicking, and camping. For more information, call (559) 434-9600.
The Sportsman's Club is a privately-owned facility located at 10645 North Lanes Road, Fresno, CA 93730. Club members can access the property for fishing, picnicking, and events. For more information, call (559) 434-7618
Sycamore Island is located at 39664 Avenue 7 1/2, Madera, CA 93638. The property includes several fishing ponds that are home to a variety of fish (bass, catfish, blue gill and crappie), as well as acces to the San Joaquin River. Visitors can enjoy canoeing, picnicking, and walking trails to enjoy nature and observe wildlife. Sycamore Island is open February 1 through October 26, Saturdays, Sundays, and state holidays from 6:00 a.m. to dusk, and Fridays from noon to dusk.
