Summer Camps at Owl Hollow

River Camp FunJoin the Community Programs Department this summer to celebrate New Youth Camps and Camps for Teens on the San Joaquin River Parkway!

These camps will be taught by professional leaders of Recreation, Conservation and Art, and give older youth a chance to go farther in learning and exploring life along one of California's longest rivers, the San Joaquin, as it refreshes Fresno and Madera on it's journey from the Sierra's to the Sea.

All camps are $185 per child per week.
Full and partial scholarships are available for applicants with financial hardship, from diverse backgrounds and those who speak English as a second language.

Canoe Leadership Camp

June 21-25
June 28-July 2
Aug 2-7
Aug 9-13

Master the art of canoeing through leadership activities in outdoor adventure.
Canoeing on the river is one of the greatest pleasures the San Joaquin Valley has to offer, and sharing this exciting experience with others by becoming a youth canoe leader is even greater. Camp Participants will learn special skills involved in navigating, appreciating, guiding and enjoying the San Joaquin River by canoe.  Activities will include river and canoe safety, beginning-intermediate canoeing and water games, natural interpretation, crafts, tour-guiding and promotion. As an added bonus, we will also be working closely with a few awesome conservation professionals to learn more about pollination, native plant gardening, natural history, and ecology, and participate in conservation projects on the Parkway that address extinction, endangered species and habitat. Canoe Leadership Camp will culminate with participants helping to guide a community river tour.

Nature of Art

July 12-16
July 19-23
July 26-30

Middle and High School aged artists will love working with well-known visual and performance artists this summer in the shade of Owl Hollow. We will focus on drawing, watercolor, charcoal, printmaking, photographic design, poetry and outdoor theater.  Daily river explorations and a native animal show will provide budding artists with a chance to meet the fauna of the Parkway in person, and turn their experiences into original works-of-art to cherish forever. Family, friends, and invited guests will be “wowed “ by the Nature of Art Show at the end of the week, featuring work from each participant as well as group projects. Selected works will be featured in the River Parkway Trust’s venues, website, and special projects throughout the year.
