Fresno, CA - The 2017 season of Respite by the River will begin on Wednesday, April 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the River Center.
Picture yourself on the lawn at the River Center, listening to an hour of live music while you enjoy your picnic supper. Then you’ll hear the words of a notable, local author, from the mouth of the writer themselves.
Sound like a relaxing evening out? That’s why we call it RESPITE BY THE RIVER. And it will happen eight times this year, beginning Wednesday, April 26th. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. And it’s free!
The refreshment bar will be open, selling wine, beer, and desserts to accompany your picnic from home. Bring your folding chair and be prepared to relax and enjoy spring and summer evenings surrounded by beauty at the River Center.
Our first author this season is Carole Firstman, an award-winning essayist, journalist, and writer of memoirs. Her memoir, “Origins of the Universe and What It All Means,” was praised by the New York Times as “a strangely dazzling memoir.” The evening will start with the music of Stomata.
By the end of the summer series, guests will have heard from eight Valley authors and local musicians.
Respite by the River is offered by the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust with support from Valley Public Radio, Valley PBS, Educational Employees Credit Union, Dumont Printing, and Eye-Q Vision Care.
