The San Joaquin River below Friant Dam supports a variety of wildlife and a diverse riparian forest that is over one-half-mile wide in some locations. Over the past 25 years, the river has been threatened by numerous proposals to develop the river bottom, which would permanently change the character, natural resource values, and accessibility of the river bottom. The Trust works to create and protect the San Joaquin River Parkway by:

- Restoring land to increase wildlife habitat values,

- Creating new public access opportunities.
