Readings by Central Valley Authors
Take a break from the rush of everyday life and experience a Respite by the River. Respite by the River is an opportunity to enjoy the ambiance of the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies on a warm spring or summer evening, while listening to readings and performances related to life in California’s Central Valley. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy beautiful sunsets, birdsong and good company. No reservations are necessary and admission is free.
We suggest arriving between 5-5:30pm to relax on the lawn or enjoy the River Center grounds. Music will begin at 6:00pm. Readings begin at 7:00pm with book sales and signing after. Respite by the River is held throughout the Summer. Check back here for dates.

Susan Snyder will present from her book Beyond Words an Oprah's Book choice that chronicles 200 years of illustrated diaries and journals. An inveterate diarist, Susan Snyder worked as a teacher, illustrator, and Japanese language interpreter before becoming head of public services at The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley.

Joell Hallowell and Meg Withers will present from their book Shadowed: Unheard Voices a collection of poetry written 27 poets using photographs as inspiration.
