Trail Projects

With seven miles of trail finished, the Lewis S. Eaton Trail continues to be a popular destination for hikers, joggers, bicyclists and equestrians. Once completed, continuous multi-use trails will extend 22 miles from Friant Dam to Highway 99.

Interpretive hiking trails will be made available as the opportunities arise. In some sections, the trail will need to bypass sensitive wildlife areas and be set back from the river. In other areas, the trail may be nearer to the water's edge. A great deal of planning to balance public use and the needs of wildlife has gone into determining appropriate trail setbacks and alignments.

Planned extensions to the Lewis S. Eaton Trail include segments west of Highway 41. We will be working with neighbors and public agencies to finalize plans and construct the trail over the next few years. Other segments will be planned and constructed as land and funding becomes available.

Much of the trail funding comes from State and Federal grants; however, through donations to the River Parkway Trust, our community provides 20% to 50% of the cost of construction in matching funds. As with membership gifts, donations to the Lewis S. Eaton Trail Fund are tax-deductible.
