"It's not cool...it's incredible!"

The River Parkway Trust is an organization dedicated to protecting the river and the surrounding lands. And to making the San Joaquin River Parkway available for education and recreation. Scientists, naturalists, volunteers, and students come here to protect and restore land, build trails, and learn about the river - including the incredible journey of the water cycle.

Your gift of $50, $100 or more - sent right away - will help protect open space throughout the Parkway where children can learn to love the outdoors. Places where children can learn, discover, understand, and enjoy.

River Camp Firebaugh is a 5-week River Camp program that takes place in the community of Firebaugh.  Each year, over 250 local children have the opportunity to take part in this program, which offers many of the same experiences as River Camp Scout Island in Fresno.  Campers learn about the river and their local ecosystems while engaging in water play, arts and crafts, games and other activities.  River Camp Firebaugh promotes respect for the environment and for one another by offering a unique experIence for participants.

River Camp Junior Leaders Program

Junior Leaders are high-school aged volunteers who are interested in developing leadership and communication skills while gaining experience working with younger children.  Junior Leaders assist River Camp Firebaugh Staff in leading a variety of activities each day including arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, games, and songs.  They act as role models for the campers, demonstrating a spirit of respect for the environment, cooperation with camp rules, and willingness to work and play with everyone at camp.  Junior Leaders participate in team-building and leadership activities with their peers as well.

Eleven-year-old Jenni Silva loves River Camp. For Jenni, camp is the way to get outside where she feels free. Without camp, she'd be stuck inside for her whole summer vacation.

Jenni loves River Camp"It feels better to be outside than inside because you feel like you are in a cage." - Jenni Silva

Do you remember when summer vacation meant playing outside from breakfast until dinner? Children in Firebaugh do not have the same freedom to explore and play in the outdoors. By supporting River Camp Firebaugh, YOU can help tell a different story.

At River Camp kids…

• Learn about the river
• Search for wildlife clues
• Get physical activity through games and free play
• Canoe and swim in the river

Campers get to build a sense of connection to the natural places in their community.

Would you like to be part of impacting the health of kids from Firebaugh? River Camp Firebaugh is making the community healthier by…
• Making physical activity a priority for families
• Helping families overcome fear about spending time outside
• Giving kids the chance to build self-esteem and social skills
• Highlighting the river as a tool improving health

Help us to continue this wonderful program, and bring local children to the river for a week of River Camp.

Onions are the primary product processed on site, and the capacity to dry parsley was added this year. Olam Firebaugh was among the first plants to work with the World Wildlife Foundation and Alliance for Water Stewardship to develop a sustainable water stewardship commitment. Olam maintains a commitment to sustainability and is proud to support the River Parkway Trust’s River Camp Firebaugh program.

Young children thrive with unhurried time in a natural setting. In 2019 the Young Explorer's program will take place at the River Center, where we'll spend time looking for signs of wildlife, exploring the Hidden Homes trail, and learning about the plants and animals that make this area their home. Each day we'll focus on a theme and your camper will participate in singing, arts and crafts, dramatic play, and other hands on activities led by our experienced staff of Young Explorers counselors. There will be time for water play and nature walks each day.  Parents and grandparents are welcome to stay and join in the fun. Young Explorers camp is held Tuesday through Thursday mornings.
