River Stewards Workday at Sycamore Island

Come join us at Sycamore Island for a fulfilling morning spent aiding the restoration of our natural lands. Sycamore Island is a 350-acre natural area conveniently located in Madera near Valley Children's Hospital along the San Joaquin River. The morning will entail the removal of the invasive plant, scarlet wisteria, which threatens to crowd out other vegetation along our river banks and wetlands.

In addition to bringing the volunteer service agreement, volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a water bottle or any snacks they may need.

We will meet at the entrance gate.

To get there, take Highway 41 North from Fresno and exit Children's Boulevard. Follow Children's Boulevard past the Valley Children's Hospital where it becomes Avenue 9. Turn Left onto Road 40 and then right on Avenue 7 1/2. Turn left into the third driveway at 39664 and continue down the hill to the main entrance gate.
