Wildflower Walk at the Gorge

Join guide Frank H. to view the spectacular spring wildflowers and other wildlife present throughout the San Joaquin River Gorge in Auberry, CA. Guide Frank Helling is a retired educator who is passionate about connecting the community to our natural environment.

The hike is free, but there is a $5 day use fee for each vehicle that enters the recreation area.; We will be meeting at the dirt parking lot across from Aholul Group Campground in the San Joaquin River Gorge Special Recreation Management Area (SMRA). The visitor’s center, located at 40060 Smalley Rd, Auberry, is the closest address that will give an accurate location. To get to the Gorge from Auberry, head north on Powerhouse road and turn left onto Smalley Rd.; Follow Smalley Rd for about 6 miles.

Please dress appropriately and bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Good hiking shoes and binoculars are recommended; leader(s) will have some binoculars for loan.
